Chamba: A newlywed couple from Punjab, who had travelled to Khajjiar in Himachal Pradesh for a visit, reportedly got into an argument at their hotel, following which the husband allegedly set fire to a Creta car said to have been received as dowry.
The incident took place around midnight in the parking area of a hotel in Khajjiar. According to reports, the couple had arrived from Ludhiana on Tuesday evening along with the husband’s family members and the wife’s siblings. They were staying at the hotel when an argument reportedly broke out between the husband and wife over an unspecified issue.

Husband Allegedly Sets Car Ablaze
As the dispute escalated, the husband allegedly poured a flammable substance on the Creta parked in the hotel lot and set it on fire. He also reportedly opened the car’s fuel tank before igniting it.
The vehicle was quickly engulfed in flames. An iPhone and cash kept inside the car were also destroyed in the fire.
The husband allegedly fled the spot after setting the vehicle on fire.
Hotel Staff, Guests Rush to Spot
Hotel staff and other guests noticed flames coming from the parking area and rushed to the spot. Panic spread among employees and guests as the fire rapidly engulfed the vehicle.
Fortunately, no other vehicles were parked close to the Creta at the time. This prevented the flames from spreading and helped avert a potentially larger incident.
Police Yet to Register Case
A police team reportedly reached the area on Wednesday morning. However, the hotel owner allegedly declined to provide information, describing the matter as a private dispute between the couple.
As of now, no case has reportedly been registered by the police. Family members of the couple have also described the incident as a personal matter.
Further details regarding the dispute and the circumstances surrounding the car fire are awaited.
