Lab Technician Shot Dead Outside Family Restaurant in Amritsar, Gang Involvement Suspected

Amritsar, Sep 1: A lab technician in SR Government College for girls, identified as Ashutosh Mahajan (35), was shot dead by armed assailants on Batala Road here last night. He is the son of a restaurant owner and was killed outside the restaurant.

According to information, he was gunned down by two bike-borne individuals with covered faces. Immediately after the incident, they fled, while the victim was rushed to the hospital where doctors declared him dead.

It took the police an hour to arrive

According to eyewitnesses, the attacker fired about six bullets, three of which hit Ashutosh. The place of the incident is just 200 meters away from the police commissioner’s house, and Vijay Nagar police station is nearby, yet the police arrived almost 1 hour after the incident.

Seriously injured, Ashutosh was immediately rushed to a nearby private hospital, where doctors declared him dead. After the incident, both the accused fled on a motorcycle.

Police seized CCTV footage, investigation started

As soon as the information was received, senior officials of Mohkampura police station and Amritsar police reached the spot. Police have started an investigation by taking CCTV footage from the spot. In the initial investigation, it is suspected that a gangster gang may be behind the incident.

Locals say that Ashutosh was a calm person and had no quarrel with anyone. This sudden incident has created an atmosphere of panic in the area. The police have not ruled out the possibility of ransom or old enmity behind the murder.
