The weapon used to murder Indore-based businessman Raja Raghuvanshi, while he was on his honeymoon in Meghalaya, has been recovered.
Of the five people accused of conspiring to murder him and carrying out the act, Vishal Chauhan allegedly attacked Raja with the machete first.
According to the sources, the weapon was used to attack Raja repeatedly, even as the man tried to save himself. Police have also found during the probe that the accused had bought the machete from near Guwahati’s railway station.
Notably Raja Raghuvanshi, a 29-year-old Indore-based businessman, was murdered during his honeymoon in Meghalaya on May 23, 2025, in a plot orchestrated by his wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, and her lover, Raj Kushwaha. The couple married on May 11, but Sonam, pressured into the marriage, planned Raja’s killing with Kushwaha 11 days prior.
On May 23, during a trek in Cherrapunji, three accomplices—Akash Rajput, Vishal Singh Chauhan, and Anand Kurmi—attacked Raja near Weisawdong Falls, inflicting fatal head injuries with a machete and disposing of his body in a gorge.
Sonam, present at the scene, fled to Guwahati, then traveled through multiple cities before surrendering in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, on June 9. The accomplices, motivated by loyalty to Kushwaha, not money, confessed to the crime.
Evidence, including a blood-stained machete, raincoat, and CCTV footage, implicated the group. Sonam’s brother, Govind, disowned her, supporting Raja’s family. The case, uncovered by a local guide’s testimony and forensic evidence, shocked India, highlighting betrayal and meticulous planning.
