“Lived a day as gig worker,” Raghav Chadha documents daily struggles of delivery boys in full video

New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha on Monday shared a full video documenting his experience as a delivery partner for e-commerce platforms, after he spent a day working alongside gig workers in Delhi to highlight the challenges they face in their daily lives.

‘Gig worker for a day’ to understand ground realities

Chadha, who donned the uniform of a quick-commerce company, turned into a delivery partner for a day as part of his campaign to draw attention to the working conditions of gig workers. The hour-long self-recorded video, shared on YouTube and social media platforms, offers an inside look at the physical strain, long hours and safety risks faced by delivery partners while navigating the city’s streets.

Pressure of 10-minute delivery timelines highlighted

In the video, the Parliamentarian is seen riding pillion on a two-wheeler with a delivery partner named Shivam, braving Delhi’s winter cold and heavy traffic during a night shift. Shivam explained that delivery partners are often compelled to ride at high speeds and even take wrong routes to meet strict 10-minute delivery targets. He also pointed out that work continues regardless of weather conditions, including rain, cold waves and extreme heat.

Sharing the video on social media, Chadha wrote, “From Parliament speech to countless meetings with gig workers, I’ve advocated for their rights, but words weren’t enough. To truly understand, I lived it. In Delhi’s biting winter cold, I teamed up with Blinkit delivery boy Shivam for a full night shift hustling on two wheels.”

Long-standing support for gig workers’ rights

The video also shows Chadha sharing a meal with gig workers, underlining his effort to understand their challenges from close quarters. Over the past few weeks, Chadha has been vocal in his support for gig workers across the country. On New Year’s Eve, he extended support to gig workers who observed a nationwide symbolic strike demanding fair wages, improved working conditions and social security. He spent the evening interacting with protesting delivery partners at Old Rajinder Nagar in Delhi.

Earlier this month, Chadha welcomed the Centre’s draft social security rules for gig workers, calling them a step towards recognition, protection and dignity for their work. He also hailed Union Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya’s directive to major delivery and quick-commerce platforms to remove rigid ‘10-minute’ delivery commitments in the interest of worker safety. Calling it a significant victory, Chadha said the move marked an important step forward for the safety, dignity and working conditions of delivery partners across the country.
