Ludhiana: FIR against two dairy owners for polluting Budha Nullah

The Ludhiana Municipal Corporation has adopted a zero-tolerance policy against those who continue to pollute the Budha Nullah, considered the lifeline of Ludhiana city. Taking strict action against those dumping dairy waste and wastewater directly into the nullah, the corporation has filed police cases against two separate dairy owners. This action by the corporation has instilled fear among other dairy operators.

Case against Ajay Dairy and Harnam Singh 

The first case is from Geeta Nagar, Lane Number 9, where the owner of Ajay Dairy is accused of causing water pollution by releasing untreated wastewater from his dairy directly into the Budha Nullah. A case was registered based on a complaint filed by Amritpal Singh, Assistant Corporation Engineer of Urban Water and Wastewater Management Limited, Zone-B. The investigation revealed that the dairy waste was being discharged directly into the nullah without any treatment.

The second case is from Block-23, where it was confirmed that Harnam Singh was dumping dairy waste and wastewater directly into the Budha Nullah. Action was taken in this case based on a complaint from the Executive Engineer of the Municipal Corporation, Zone-D (O&M).

In both cases, cases have been registered against the accused under Section 279 of the BNS and Sections 70(3), 70(5), and 70(12) of the Northern India Canal and Drainage Act, 1873.

Municipal Corporation officials have clarified that similar strict action will continue against those who pollute the Budha Nullah. Officials stated that discharging any kind of industrial or dairy waste into the nullah without treatment is a legal offense, and the culprits will not be spared under any circumstances.
