Ludhiana fire brigade preparations complete, leaves cancelled

A large number of firecrackers are being burst in Ludhiana. As a result, over 50 fire incidents are reported annually on Diwali night. The fire brigade’s limited resources cause significant damage to residents. Despite this annual loss, the Punjab government has not increased the number of fire personnel in Ludhiana.

When Ludhiana’s population was around 1 million, the number of fire personnel remained the same. Now, the city’s population has exceeded 3.5 million, yet the number of fire personnel has not been increased. Currently, Ludhiana has 102 fire personnel deployed and 25 fire tenders. There are an average of four personnel per fire tender.

8 to 10 tenders are deployed for major fire incidents

When major fire incidents occur in the city, the fire brigade has to deploy 8 to 10 tenders. Major fire incidents often occur in many areas on Diwali night. Due to the shortage of fire personnel, they face significant difficulties.

These fire personnel positions are vacant.

25 firemen, 11 sub-fire officers, 2 fire station officers, and 4 leading officer positions are vacant. Due to the shortage of fire personnel for Diwali, all leave has been canceled. Three temporary fire stations have been set up for Diwali. Fire stations have been established at nine locations in the city. Of these, six are permanent and three are temporary.
