    Tehsil Employee Arrested in Ludhiana for Accepting ₹5,000 Bribe in Vigilance Bureau Trap Case

    Ludhiana: Acting against bribery, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau has arrested a government employee red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹5,000. The accused has been identified as Sarabjit Singh alias Bittu, a resident of New Deep Nagar, Chuharpur Road, Haibowal Kalan, Ludhiana.

    The Vigilance Bureau had received a complaint from Arminder Singh, a resident of Baba Deep Singh Nagar, Ludhiana. The complaint alleged that his father, Laxman Singh, had purchased a 60-square-yard plot in the cycle market located in Muradpur in 2010 and had also taken possession of it.

    Citing Connections with Officials

    According to the complainant, in 2020, he discovered that an allegedly fraudulent registry pertaining to the said land had been executed in the name of another individual. During the investigation of the matter, he learned that the accused Sarabjit Singh alias Bittu, an employee associated with the Tehsil office was offering assurances that he could resolve the registry-related issue by leveraging his connections with officials.

    Caught in the Vigilance Team’s Trap

    It is alleged that the accused demanded ₹3.50 lakh to get the entire work completed. Furthermore, he demanded an initial installment of ₹25,000, along with an immediate bribe payment of ₹5,000.

    Upon receiving the complaint, the Vigilance Bureau, under the supervision of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Shiv Chand, laid a trap. In the presence of official witnesses, the accused was apprehended red-handed while accepting the bribe of ₹5,000 near a ‘dhaba’ (eatery) located outside the Ludhiana Courts Complex.

    Vigilance Team Recovers Bribe Money from the Spot

    During the operation, officials from the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare were enlisted as official witnesses. The Vigilance team also recovered the bribe money from the scene. Officials stated that a case has been registered against the accused under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Further investigation into the matter is underway, and the accused is currently being interrogated.
