Jalandhar: Gunfire erupted around 12:00 a.m. in Jalandhar’s Raj Nagar area, leaving a young man, identified as Babbal, injured. A police patrol party reached the spot and rushed him to a hospital, where he is currently in stable condition at a private facility.
After the shooting, the family initially called for an ambulance, but when it failed to arrive for nearly 15 minutes, the injured youth was taken to the hospital in an auto. During this time, he was seen groaning in pain.
ADCP-2 from the Basti area visited the scene and stated that an investigation is underway. Both parties involved are being questioned, and action will be taken after statements from the families. The weapon used in the firing has not yet been recovered. Police said two to three shots were fired, and two shell casings were found at the scene.
Families Trade Allegations Over Drugs and Firing
Bharti, the mother of the injured youth, claimed that allegations of her son Sunny Luthra being involved in drug trade are false. She insisted her son has no connection with drugs.
On the other hand, Joga, a relative of the accused in the firing, alleged that his children were falsely implicated and claimed that members of the opposing group opened fire, seriously injuring his son.
Sonu and Jaswinder from the other side alleged that Sunny Luthra had gathered 15–20 युवक who vandalised CCTV cameras outside their house. They said the dispute began after they objected to his speeding in the street, with tensions escalating since an earlier argument during Holi.
Violence, Past Rivalry and Additional Accusations
Residents claimed that along with gunfire, bricks, stones, and sharp weapons were also used during the clash. Sonu and Jaswinder further alleged that Sunny Luthra was involved in drug trafficking in the locality and opposed installation of CCTV cameras to avoid detection.
They also claimed that the accused had a previous case registered under Section 307 of the Indian Penal Code. Locals alleged he had earlier seriously injured a person and involved minors in drug-related activities. A child reportedly had a narrow escape during the incident.
Kapil, a local resident, said multiple individuals were involved in the clash, and 8–10 rounds of firing took place. He also alleged that his brother was attacked on the way to the police station.
Meanwhile, a youth named Honey claimed he was assaulted by some of the accused while passing through the area to meet a friend. He alleged that he was attacked with sticks and a baseball bat, and his new scooter was snatched.
