Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to unveil urban development projects worth ₹5,295 crore in Gujarat, marking a significant push toward strengthening infrastructure and improving urban living standards in the state. The projects will be inaugurated and launched during his visit, reflecting the Centre’s continued focus on urban transformation.
These initiatives are part of a broader vision to make cities more sustainable, efficient, and citizen-friendly, aligning with flagship programmes such as the Smart Cities Mission and AMRUT.
Among all cities, Ahmedabad is expected to receive the largest share of the total investment. The focus will be on enhancing urban infrastructure, including road networks, water supply systems, drainage facilities, and housing projects.
Ahmedabad, being one of Gujarat’s fastest-growing urban centres, has been a major beneficiary of infrastructure upgrades in recent years. Projects in the city are aimed at easing congestion, improving connectivity, and upgrading civic amenities to meet the demands of a growing population.
The projects cover a wide range of sectors crucial for urban growth. These include strengthening water supply systems, expanding sewerage networks, improving urban transport, and modernising civic infrastructure.
Authorities have emphasised that improved road connectivity, construction of overbridges and underpasses, and better waste management systems will be key components of the development plan. Such initiatives are expected to enhance ease of living and reduce pressure on existing infrastructure.
The development projects also align with India’s push toward smart and sustainable cities. Gujarat has been a leading state under the Smart Cities Mission, with several projects already completed across major cities like Ahmedabad, Surat, and Vadodara.
These initiatives aim to integrate technology with governance, improve public service delivery, and ensure better urban planning. Digital platforms, efficient traffic systems, and improved sanitation infrastructure are part of the broader urban transformation agenda.
Experts believe that such large-scale infrastructure investments will not only improve urban living conditions but also generate employment and boost economic activity. Construction, engineering, and allied sectors are expected to benefit significantly from these projects.
Improved infrastructure also plays a crucial role in attracting investments, supporting industries, and enhancing overall economic growth in the region. Gujarat has consistently been among the top-performing states in infrastructure development, and these projects are expected to further strengthen its position.
The initiative reflects a long-term strategy to prepare Gujarat’s cities for future challenges such as rapid urbanisation and population growth. The government aims to create resilient urban ecosystems that can sustain economic expansion while maintaining environmental balance.
With Ahmedabad receiving the largest share and multiple cities benefiting from the projects, the ₹5,295 crore investment marks another milestone in Gujarat’s urban development journey under the leadership of Narendra Modi.
