Moga Police Station Blast Sparks Political Row; Bittu Alleges Police Stopped Him, Congress Seeks CM Mann’s Resignation

Moga: A day after a low-intensity blast at the Moga Sadar police station in Punjab, the incident triggered a political confrontation, with Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu alleging that Punjab Police prevented him from inspecting the blast site. Bittu staged a sit-in protest outside the police station before later being allowed to visit the premises. Meanwhile, the Punjab Congress demanded Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s resignation, accusing the AAP government of failing to maintain law and order.

The explosion occurred early on Wednesday when unidentified persons allegedly hurled an object into the police station compound. The blast damaged the windows of a few seized vehicles parked inside the premises but caused no casualties or major structural damage. Police have registered a case under the Explosives Act and launched a forensic investigation to determine the nature of the explosive and identify those responsible.

Bittu alleges police blocked his visit

Ravneet Singh Bittu claimed police officers stopped him from reaching the police station, leading to a heated exchange. He later sat on the road in protest along with BJP workers. According to Bittu, police eventually allowed him to visit the entrance of the police station after his protest. He also questioned why public representatives were allegedly being prevented from inspecting the site and expressed concern over repeated attacks on police establishments in Punjab.

Police clarify there was ‘confusion’

Moga police denied preventing Bittu from visiting the site, stating that officers initially believed he intended to enter the police station premises, which could have interfered with the ongoing forensic examination. Senior Superintendent of Police Gurbans Singh Bains said Bittu was later escorted to the entrance after the misunderstanding was cleared. Police added that it is too early to confirm whether the object used in the blast was a grenade, and all angles are being investigated.

Congress demands CM Mann’s resignation

Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring demanded Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s resignation, alleging that repeated attacks on police stations reflected a serious deterioration in Punjab’s law and order. He questioned how citizens could feel safe when even police establishments were being targeted. The Shiromani Akali Dal also criticised the AAP government over the incident, calling it another sign of worsening security in the state.

Investigation underway

Forensic experts have collected evidence from the blast site, while investigators are examining CCTV footage to identify the suspects. Authorities have sounded a high alert in the area and said further details will be shared after the forensic analysis is completed. Police have urged the public not to spread unverified information until the investigation establishes the exact nature of the blast.
