Tehran: Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has directed the country’s armed forces to respond immediately and effectively to any threat from its enemies, without geographical limitations, amid rising tensions with the United States and Israel.
The directive was issued during a meeting with senior commanders of Iran’s armed forces, according to a statement published on Khamenei’s official website on Saturday.
The meeting was attended by Armed Forces Chief of Staff Ali Abdollahi, Army Chief Commander Amir Hatami and Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Commander Ahmad Vahidi.
Khamenei said that if Iran’s enemies resume military or terrorist attacks, the Iranian armed forces and people would decide when and under what conditions the conflict would end.
He also called for strengthening the country’s military intelligence system, developing indigenous defence capabilities and improving security preparedness through advanced technologies.
Iran Orders Update of US-Israel Target List
The Supreme Leader also directed the military to update its list of potential targets to ensure that various physical and non-physical assets of what he described as the “US-Israeli enemy” were within the reach of Iranian forces.
During the meeting, senior commanders briefed Khamenei on the armed forces’ preparedness. They also reported a significant increase in domestic production of ammunition, reconnaissance equipment, support systems and combat weapons.
US-Israel Reportedly Prepare for Possible Fresh Strikes
Khamenei’s remarks come amid reports of possible renewed military action against Iran by the United States and Israel.
The Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday that Washington had asked several Gulf countries to prepare for a possible short but intense military campaign against Iran after the US midterm elections. The report, citing people familiar with the discussions, said the US and Israeli militaries were preparing for another round of operations.
The latest tensions follow the joint US-Israeli attacks on Tehran and other Iranian cities on February 28. Iran responded with missile and drone strikes targeting Israel and US bases and assets in the region, while also tightening its grip on the Strait of Hormuz.
The latest warning from Tehran signals its position that any renewed attack could trigger an immediate response beyond its geographical boundaries.
