Monsoon Remains Active in Chandigarh, Punjab; Rain to Continue Till August 12

Chandigarh: The monsoon remains active in Chandigarh and Punjab. Rainfall recorded over the past 24 hours has brought relief from humidity and scorching heat, making the weather pleasant.

According to the Meteorological Centre, Chandigarh, intermittent rainfall is likely to continue in both regions from today till August 12. Chandigarh is expected to remain partly cloudy.

Light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely at several places. The maximum temperature is expected to remain between 32 and 35 degrees Celsius over the next five days.

While rainfall has brought down temperatures in Chandigarh, the highest maximum temperature in the state was recorded at 36.2 degrees Celsius at Bathinda Airport.

Chandigarh Temperature Drops Below Normal

Rainfall has led to a decline in temperatures in Chandigarh. The city recorded a maximum temperature of 32.4 degrees Celsius, which was one degree below normal. The minimum temperature stood at 24.1 degrees Celsius, 2.6 degrees below normal.

In the past 24 hours, the Chandigarh Meteorological Centre recorded 12.8 mm of rainfall, while 38.8 mm was recorded in the airport area. Since June 1, the city has received a total seasonal rainfall of 412.6 mm.

Bathinda Hottest, Ludhiana Records Lowest Temperature

There was no major change in Punjab’s average maximum temperature, but it remained 1.9 degrees Celsius below normal. The highest maximum temperature in the state was recorded at 36.2 degrees Celsius at Bathinda Airport.

Meanwhile, Ludhiana recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 23.8 degrees Celsius, which was 3 degrees below normal.

Several districts of Punjab received rainfall during the past 24 hours. Ballowal Saunkhri in SBS Nagar recorded the highest rainfall at 18.4 mm. Hoshiarpur received 18 mm, Fatehgarh Sahib 12 mm, Ludhiana 11.5 mm, the Bhakra Dam area in Rupnagar 6.5 mm and Barnala 3 mm.

No Heavy Rain Alert for Now

According to the weather department’s seven-day forecast, intermittent rainfall is likely to continue in different parts of Punjab till August 13. However, no warning of heavy rainfall has been issued for the state.

In Chandigarh too, light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely at some places on Saturday.
