MP Sahni Alleges Governance Failure in Punjab, Claims Illegal Mining at 85 Sites

Ludhiana: Rajya Sabha MP Vikramjit Singh Sahney, who switched from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to the BJP, has declared the Punjab government a complete failure. Sahney went so far as to assert that the very concept of governance is non-existent in Punjab and that the government is doing absolutely nothing. Sahney made these remarks during a BJP “mock session” held in Chandigarh.

“The government has failed to rein in illegal mining. I personally submitted the locations of 85 illegal mining sites to the government in coordination with the NGT, yet no action has been taken to date. Furthermore, Central Government schemes bearing the ‘PM’ prefix are not being implemented within the state.”

“There are 62 such schemes that the Punjab government has failed to implement, thereby depriving the people of Punjab of their rightful benefits.” Addressing the issue of drug abuse, Sahney noted that 1,600 young lives have been lost, yet the government remains inactive. On the other hand, he went so far as to label those who do not consider alcohol to be an intoxicant as “fools.”

Sahney remarked that leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party frequently invoke the Constitution and champion states’ rights while simultaneously claiming that the Central Government is withholding funds. Sahney argued that “cooperative federalism” does not mean waking up every morning merely to hurl abuse at the Prime Minister and the home minister; rather, it entails implementing central schemes and utilising the funds provided for them.
