Nainital B.Sc Student Dies by Suicide After Alleged Harassment by Teacher, Family Raises Questions

In Nainital this morning, distressed by a teacher’s reprimand, Simran Arya (20) a third-year B.Sc. student committed suicide by hanging herself. The deceased’s brothers, Sagar and Sahil, stated that a college teacher had been harassing her and had scolded Simran Arya in front of all the other students.

Distraught by this, Simran Arya hanged herself on Tuesday morning. The student took her own life by fashioning a noose out of a ‘dupatta’ (scarf). When Simran did not open her bedroom door in the morning, neighbors broke it down.

The incident occurred in the Staff House area. Upon finding Simran hanging inside, the neighbors were thrown into a state of panic. They immediately informed the police. A police team arrived at the scene shortly after receiving the report. Station House Officer (Kotwal) Hem Chandra Pant stated that a forensic team has been summoned to investigate the matter.
