Rekha Arya Targets Opposition Over Womne’s Bill Delay

Almora, April 18: Political activity has intensified following the failure to pass the amendment motion related to the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Bill’ in the Lok Sabha. In this context, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) registered its protest by organizing a ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Sammelan’ (Women’s Empowerment Conference) in Almora.

Rekha Arya, the Minister for Women and Child Development, participated in this conference. She stated that the failure to pass the bill constitutes an affront to the dignity of “half the population” and reflects the mindset of the opposition.

Minister Rekha Arya noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had convened a special session from April 16 to 18. During this session, the NDA voted in support of the bill. She further pointed out that Union Home Minister Amit Shah had clarified the situation prior to the votes; nevertheless the opposition voted against it.

Rekha Arya termed the vote against women’s reservation as unfortunate. She alleged that the opposition views women merely as voters  and does not desire their participation in policy-making.

She further added that women had elected opposition MPs with trust, but their hopes were dashed. According to the Minister, women have now fully grasped the reality of this situation. Rekha Arya warned that women would deliver their response in the 2027 Assembly elections and the 2029 Lok Sabha elections and the impact of this would be clearly evident.
