Noida: A man with a history of criminal activity was injured during an encounter with police in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, late Tuesday night. The encounter took place near Sector 142, where the police shot the accused, identified as 28-year-old Pawan Kumar, in the leg after he fired at the officers. Kumar, a resident of Chhaprauli village in Noida, was arrested and taken to the hospital for treatment.
The police recovered a pistol, a live cartridge, and two stolen mobile phones from him. Kumar is suspected of being involved in various criminal activities, including drug smuggling, theft from homes and shops. On March 15, he allegedly stole two mobile phones from a scrap shop near Metro Sector 143. A case has already been registered in this regard at the Sector 142 police station.
The encounter occurred during a police checking operation near Jain Park, when officers noticed a suspicious individual. When asked to stop, Kumar attempted to flee and fired at the police, prompting them to return fire in self-defense. After he was shot in the leg, he was apprehended and taken for medical treatment.
Police investigation revealed that Kumar has been involved in over 10 serious crimes, including theft, robbery, drug trafficking, and violations of the Arms Act, across various police stations in Gautam Buddha Nagar. Authorities suspect he may be part of a larger criminal gang and are planning to interrogate him further to uncover details about other crimes and his associates.
