In Baghpat, UP, a woman committed suicide, accusing her in-laws of harassment. The married woman wrote a suicide note on her hands and feet, then committed suicide by consuming poison at her maternal home.
In the suicide note, she has accused her husband and in-laws of threatening to kill her. The police have taken the body into custody and sent it for post-mortem and are investigating the matter.
28-year-old Manisha, a resident of Rathoda village, was married to Kundan, a resident of Siddhipur, Ghaziabad in 2023. It is alleged that after five months of marriage, Manisha’s in-laws started harassing her, demanding dowry. Last year in 2024, Manisha’s father, Tejbir Singh, brought her to his house. Manisha was living in her maternal home for about a year. Manisha’s brother Vivek said that 20-25 people had come from his sister’s in-laws’ house three days ago. There was talk of divorce. On this, Manisha said that she will not sign the divorce papers until the dowry money is returned.
According to Vivek, Manisha was suffering from depression since then. Late on Tuesday night, when the family members slept, Manisha committed suicide by consuming poison. When the family woke up in the morning, Manisha was lying dead on the bed. Manisha’s mother Sunita called her husband Tejbir and informed him about the incident. After this, the police was informed about the incident. When the police reached the spot and investigated, a suicide note was written on Manisha’s hands and feet.
What did Baghpat ASP say?
In the suicide note, Manisha has accused her husband, mother-in-law, father-in-law and brothers-in-law of beating her and threatening to kill her. Manisha has held her in-laws responsible for her death. According to ASP Baghpat NP Singh, investigation revealed that the deceased was having a dispute with her in-laws. Two days ago, some people from the in-laws’ side had come to the village. There was some talk there. The family members of the deceased are alleging murder, but the case appears to be of suicide.
