New Delhi : New records of rising temperature are being made in the country. On Monday, a 46-year-old record was broken in Punjab. The maximum temperature was recorded at 48.4 degrees in Bathinda, Punjab. On May 21, 1978, the temperature in Amritsar was recorded at 47.7 degrees.
10 people lost their lives due to heat in Uttar Pradesh on Monday. 35 people have died in Rajasthan in the last one week. Phalodi in the state remained the hottest place in the country for the third consecutive day at 49.4 degrees.
Temperatures of 45 degrees or more were recorded at 75 places in 10 states including Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Delhi. On Sunday, the temperature at only 37 places in the country was 45 degrees or more.
Relief from heat wave may be available after May 30, number of heat wave days will be more in June
IMD Director Mrityunjay Mohapatra said on Monday that similar heatwave will continue across the country till May 30. There will be severe heat in some areas of Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, Chandigarh, Delhi and Himachal. However, there is a possibility of relief after that.
A western disturbance is coming on 30th May. Due to which there will be rain in the hilly areas of North India and the temperature in the plains will drop for three-four days. The situation seems to be ripe for the arrival of monsoon in Kerala in the next five days.
Normal rain in Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, Delhi, Chandigarh; Above normal rainfall is expected in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra and entire South India and below normal rainfall is expected in the northeastern states.
According to the Meteorological Department, the temperature will rise again in June. Next month there is a possibility of it being hotter than May. The number of heatwave days is also expected to be higher in Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, Chandigarh, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
In May, there was a heatwave for nine to 12 days in Rajasthan and Gujarat, in which the temperature remained between 45 and 50. At the same time, heatwave lasted for five to seven days in Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, in which the temperature ranged from 44 degrees to 48 degrees.
Effect of heat
Advisory issued: Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj announced that two beds will be reserved for heat wave patients in all government hospitals.
Holidays in schools: Summer holidays have been implemented in all the schools of Haryana from Tuesday.
Water shortage: According to the Central Water Commission, the water stock in the country’s 150 main water sources reduced to only 24 percent last week, due to which there was water shortage in many states and power generation was affected.
Electricity consumption increased: The country’s electricity demand has increased to 239.96 GW, which is the highest so far this season. It is believed that in the coming few days the power demand will increase and cross last year’s all-time high of 243.27 GW.
