In Punjab and Chandigarh, people are expected to get relief from the heat from today (May 2) for the next five days. During this period, there is a possibility of rain accompanied by thunder and lightning, along with strong winds blowing at a speed of 30-40 km per hour in some areas.
More than 320 people have died in the last four days due to heat and heatstroke in the country. In the last three days, Uttar Pradesh has lost the most number of lives, around 100.
New records of rising temperature are being made in the country. On Monday, a 46-year-old record was broken in Punjab. The maximum temperature was recorded at 48.4 degrees in Bathinda, Punjab. On May 21, 1978, the temperature in Amritsar was recorded at 47.7 degrees.
