Heavy storm and rain in UP, Highway submerged in Bareilly

Amid the scorching heat, the spell of rain has begun in UP. Since Monday morning, Gonda, Mathura, Balrampur, Sambhal, Agra, Hathras, Ayodhya, Bareilly, Firozabad, and Gonda Sant Kabirnagar are experiencing heavy rains accompanied by thunder and lightning.

Varanasi, June 16: Amid the scorching heat, the spell of rain has begun in UP. Since Monday morning, Gonda, Mathura, Balrampur, Sambhal, Agra, Hathras, Ayodhya, Bareilly, Firozabad, and Gonda Sant Kabirnagar are experiencing heavy rains accompanied by thunder and lightning. A light breeze is also blowing. It is cloudy in Lucknow, and there was drizzle in the morning.

Heavy rain started in Bareilly at 12 midnight. The rain continued till 6 am. In about 6 hours of rain, water filled the city to the highway. Here, the Lucknow-Delhi highway is flooded with water up to the knees. Policemen are standing in the water and controlling the traffic. In many colonies, water is up to the waist. The road near the Subhash Nagar culvert looks like a river. Water filled at Madhinath as well. Subhash Nagar Power House is filled with two feet of water.

There is a warning of thunderstorms and rain in 62 districts today. Varanasi was the hottest place in the country in the last 24 hours, the mercury here was recorded at 43.2 degrees Celsius.

Jalaun was the second hottest place, where the temperature was 42.6 degrees. Bhatinda in Punjab was the third hottest place. Whereas Hardoi recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 23.5°C. The weather department has predicted that the monsoon will enter UP via Gorakhpur on 18 June.

In the last 48 hours, 26 people have died due to lightning. In Prayagraj, a husband, wife, and their two daughters were burnt alive. Meanwhile, a 45-year-old woman died due to storm and rain in Shahjahanpur. 7 people died due to heatstroke. 4 people died in Varanasi, 1 each in Sonbhadra, Ghazipur and Mirzapur. A total of 34 people died in the state.
