Meerut: In anticipation of Eid-ul-Fitr and the last Friday prayers of Ramadan, Meerut Police has issued stern warnings prohibiting the offering of namaz on roads. Violators may face severe legal repercussions, including the potential cancellation of their passports and revocation of driving licenses.
Ayush Vikram Singh, Superintendent of Police (City), emphasized that Eid prayers should be conducted at local mosques or designated Eidgahs, stressing that no namaz should be performed on public roads.
Union Minister and Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) leader Jayant Singh Chaudhary noted that if criminal cases are filed against individuals, their passports and licenses could be canceled, making it challenging to obtain a new passport without a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the court. Such documents would remain confiscated until court clearance is obtained.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Vipin Tada stated that meetings have been held at the district and police station levels, and necessary directives have been issued after consultations with all stakeholders.
“Strict actions will be taken against anyone spreading rumors or inciting unrest on social media. We are closely monitoring social media platforms, and any attempts to disrupt communal harmony will be firmly addressed,” the SSP warned.
To enhance security, personnel from the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) and Rapid Action Force (RAF) have been deployed, and flag marches are taking place throughout the district. Sensitive areas have been identified based on past incidents, and special measures have been put in place.
SSP Tada also mentioned that the administration is collaborating with prominent community members and religious leaders to ensure peace and a smooth celebration of the upcoming festivals.
To maintain law and order, drones will be used for aerial surveillance, and local intelligence teams are actively monitoring the situation. Uniformed and plainclothes officers will be stationed at all sensitive locations. The Meerut Police has clearly stated that those who violate the ban could see their passports and driving licenses canceled, and a court-issued NOC will be necessary for renewing a passport.
