Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh): The district authorities conducted a demolition operation in Begum Bagh, a locality situated close to the Mahakaleshwar temple, to clear illegal structures. During this operation on Wednesday, seven structures were dismantled under tight security.

Sandeep Soni, CEO of the Ujjain Development Authority (UDA), explained that about two years ago, the lease for the structures on both sides of the roads in this area was canceled due to violations of lease terms. Following the cancellation, notices were issued to four plots—where the seven structures had been constructed—because some commercial activities were still ongoing. Since the lease was revoked, these structures automatically became government property and were deemed illegal encroachments.

He further stated that these properties were considered encroachments, and a final notice was issued. Subsequently, with the assistance of the district administration, municipal authorities, and police, UDA took control of the land and initiated the removal process.

Additionally, ASP Nitesh Bhargav mentioned that a significant police presence, comprising around 150 personnel, was deployed to oversee the law and order situation during the demolition. He affirmed that the removal of the seven structures across four locations was carried out peacefully.

It was noted that the UDA had previously attempted to remove similar illegal constructions in the same area; however, court orders had halted some of these actions. Now that the stay has been lifted, the authorities resumed their removal efforts on Wednesday, with senior officials from the Ujjain Municipal Corporation, UDA, and police present at the site.
