Varanasi: To celebrate International Women’s Day, the Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi introduced a special initiative for female devotees on March 8. Starting in the morning, women were given the opportunity to have a VIP darshan through a dedicated entrance at Gate Number 4, designed specifically for them. This special arrangement allowed women to have a hassle-free visit, perform the sacred ‘Jalabhishek,’ and avoid the usual temple crowds.
Vishwa Bhushan Mishra, CEO of the Kashi Vishwanath Temple, explained that the idea came from a media group’s suggestion to make special provisions for women on Women’s Day. The temple management decided to dedicate Gate Number 4, usually reserved for local residents, to female devotees for the day. The special entry was available in both the morning and evening shifts, with additional services such as health checkups provided for women.
The initiative was met with appreciation from women in the city. Local resident Kanti Chaudhary expressed her gratitude, saying that the special arrangements allowed her and other women to worship Lord Shiva peacefully, without the usual crowd. She thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for this thoughtful gesture.
International Women’s Day, observed on March 8, celebrates the achievements of women and girls worldwide while promoting gender equality. The theme for IWD 2025, “Accelerate Action,” calls for urgent and decisive action to achieve gender parity globally.
