Lucknow: Ahead of the Holi festival, a jewellery shop in Lucknow is offering a special silver Pichkari (water gun) and small buckets, priced at Rs 1 lakh.
Jeweller Adesh Kumar Jain shared with media that gifting a silver Pichkari is a long-standing tradition, especially among newly married couples. The bride’s family typically gifts it to the groom’s family as a symbolic gesture. These silver Pichkaris range in price from Rs 8,000 to Rs 1 lakh.
This year, Jain mentioned, the Pichkaris have become even more special, with intricate carvings, meenakari work, and stone inlays, which have been very well received. He also noted that the demand has been strong, with over 1,000 Pichkaris sold in Lucknow so far. Many shopkeepers have bought them wholesale to sell to their customers, and Jain believes that this wedding Pichkari tradition will only grow in popularity in the coming years.
As Holi approaches, the unique and traditional water guns are attracting significant interest.
In another creative take on Holi celebrations, a sweet shop in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh, has introduced a ‘Golden Gujiya.’ Amid rising sweet prices for the festival, this exclusive treat is priced at Rs 50,000 per kilogram and Rs 1,300 per piece.
The shop manager, Shivakant Chaturvedi, explained that the Golden Gujiya is coated in 24-carat gold and filled with special dry fruits, setting it apart from regular Gujiyas. The use of edible gold leaf, along with a rich filling, makes it a luxurious and unique offering for the festival season. Traditional Gujiyas are typically filled with khoya, nuts, and dried fruits, but the addition of gold gives this version a distinct golden appearance.
