Gau Mata Event in Punjab Reflects India’s Spiritual Tradition: Haryana CM Saini

Chandigarh: Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Sunday said that the Gau Katha and Gau Mata Seva programme organised in Samana in Punjab’s Patiala district was a testimony to India’s rich spiritual and Sanatan tradition.

The programme was organised to mark the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur, with Saini describing the ceremony as a unique confluence of faith, service and shared cultural heritage.

Haryana Has 650 Gaushalas: Saini

Addressing the gathering, Saini said that Haryana had only around 200 gaushalas before 2014, with an annual budget of about Rs 2 crore. He said the number has now increased to 650 gaushalas, while the annual budget has been raised to Rs 600 crore.

According to the Chief Minister, more than 4 lakh stray cattle are currently being cared for in these gaushalas.

He said large sheds and solar power plants have been established in 350 gaushalas to ensure better facilities for cattle. The Haryana government has also abolished the one per cent stamp duty on registration of land for setting up new gaushalas, he added.

Saini Highlights Haryana’s Anti-Drug and Sports Initiatives

Saini also spoke about the Haryana government’s campaign against drug abuse and said strict action was being taken against drug peddlers.

Highlighting the state’s sports infrastructure, he said Haryana has established 2,000 sports nurseries, where around 40 lakh young people practice sports every day.

Saini said Haryana athletes won seven gold medals out of India’s 13 gold medals at the recent Commonwealth Games. He added that five of Haryana’s seven gold medals were won by women athletes, calling their achievements a matter of pride for the state and the country.
