Punjab Nihangs Breach Kulhal Border Barricades, Head Back After Negotiations

Tension prevailed in Uttarakhand’s Karnaprayag after a clash between locals and Nihangs. On Thursday, a group of Nihangs from Sohana Gurdwara Sahib in Mohali marched to Uttarakhand and were stopped by the Uttarakhand Police at the Kulhal border in Paonta Sahib.

There was complete tension on the Kulhal border on the night of Thursday-Friday. The group of Nihangs created a ruckus there and broke the barricades and came forward waving swords. The Nihangs vandalized the trucks parked there. When some Nihangs reached Prem Nagar in Dehradun through other routes, the police also surrounded them. An overnight meeting with the administration at Premnagar Gurdwara Sahib continued.

In the early hours of the morning, the Nihangs were sent back to Paonta Sahib. District Magistrate Dehradun Ashish Chauhan and SSP Pramendra Singh Dobal were present in the meeting. After this long and successful dialogue with the police and administration, the group of Nihangs has returned to Paonta Sahib in Himachal Pradesh. SSP Pramendra Singh Dobal confirmed in an official statement that the situation is completely under control and peace is now prevailing on the Dehradun-Himachal border.

At the same time, no statement has come out from the Nihangs in this matter. At present, there is peace on the Uttarakhand-Himachal border Kulhal. Earlier, late at night, 8 Nihangs reached the Himachal border and started trying to enter Uttarakhand.

The demands of the Nihangs have not been fulfilled

Before marching, the Nihang Sikhs held a meeting at Sohana Gurudwara in Mohali on Thursday morning. During this, he had said that his associates arrested in the Karnaprayag incident should be released and the FIR registered in the case should be canceled. Also, action should be taken against the local people involved in the incident. However, these demands of the Nihangs have not been fulfilled yet and their companions are still in police custody.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami issued an alert

With the announcement of the Nihangs marching to Uttarakhand, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had issued orders to all departments to be on alert. He had made it clear that the Char Dham Yatra and Hemkunt Yatra would not be allowed to be affected. After the CM’s order, DGP Uttarakhand had also made it clear that no one will be allowed to spread anarchy in the state.

Tension started after Karnaprayag incident

The entire controversy is related to the June 16 incident. Some people were injured in a sword attack allegedly over a minor dispute between locals and Nihang Sikhs in Karnaprayag. A Nihang Sikh was also injured in the incident. In this case, the police registered a case and arrested four Nihang Sikhs.

After this incident, on the afternoon of June 20, Nihang Sikhs took a Sikh devotee hostage and climbed on the roof of the gurdwara at Nagarasu in Rudraprayag. The standoff ended on June 23 and the Nihangs who climbed the roof also came down. But the matter did not end there. A group of Nihangs marched towards Uttarakhand from Gurdwara Singh Shahidan in Mohali on Thursday.
