NRI Youth shot dead in Amritsar, case lodged

A firing incident took place in the Dhariwal village of Amritsar late last night. An NRI youth was shot dead. The deceased has been identified as Malkit Singh (42) son of Surjit Singh, a resident of Dhariwal. The police have registered a case based on the statements of the family.

According to reports, the incident took place in the Othian police post, which comes under the jurisdiction of Rajasansi police station. The deceased Malkit had returned from Italy a few days ago. He had started the construction of his house. At the time of the incident, he was in the fields with his father.

Father Surjit Singh said that his son was sowing wheat in his fields late at night when a youth from the village suddenly opened fire on him, following which he was seriously injured. The family members immediately took him to a private hospital in Amritsar, where he died during treatment.

The father of the deceased has accused a youth named Bikram, a resident of the village, of threatening him. The accused demanded a ransom from the family, which the family refused to give. At night, the accused opened fire on his son. In this regard, Rajasansi police station SHO Bikramjit Singh said that a case has been registered against Bikram on the complaint of the deceased’s family, and the police have started an investigation. He said that the body will be handed over to the family after the postmortem, while the search for the accused is on.
