New Delhi: Novo Nordisk on Friday announced the launch of its blockbuster weight-loss and diabetes drug Ozempic in India, with prices starting at ₹8,800 per month (four weekly doses).

Ozempic Pricing & Dosage Details

Ozempic — a once-weekly injectable semaglutide — has been approved in India for adults with uncontrolled type-2 diabetes, to be used alongside diet and exercise. The drug comes in three pre-filled pen doses:

• 0.25 mg priced at ₹8,800
• 0.5 mg at ₹10,170
• 1 mg at ₹11,175

Each single-use Novofine pen delivers four painless subcutaneous injections.

Calling the launch a “major milestone,” Vikrant Shrotriya, Managing Director of Novo Nordisk India, said Ozempic brings globally trusted clinical results and offers Indian doctors a powerful option for improved glycaemic control, meaningful weight management, and long-term heart and kidney protection — all in a simple weekly pen device.

Why Ozempic Is in Global Demand

Approved by the US FDA in 2017, Ozempic became widely known for its off-label use in weight loss due to its appetite-suppressing effects. The company noted that the drug not only lowers HbA1c levels but also reduces risks of cardiovascular and kidney complications linked to diabetes.

Ozempic belongs to the GLP-1 receptor agonist class, working by controlling hunger signals in the brain, supporting weight loss, and enhancing overall glucose regulation in type-2 diabetes patients.
