Patiala Judge Booked for Theft, Bail Plea Rejected by Court

In a shocking development from Punjab, a civil judge posted in Patiala has been booked in connection with a theft case at the residence of an Additional Sessions Judge. The case, which surfaced nearly seven months after the alleged incident, has raised serious questions within the judicial system.

According to reports, the FIR was registered following an investigation into a burglary that took place at the house of a deceased Additional District and Sessions Judge. The delay in filing the FIR is reportedly linked to the sensitive nature of the case, as it involved a serving judicial officer.

Theft at Judge’s Residence After His Death

The incident dates back to August 2025, when the Additional Sessions Judge passed away while undergoing treatment. During this period, when the family members were away, a group of individuals allegedly entered his residence in Patiala and stole cash and gold ornaments.

CCTV footage later revealed that multiple people were involved in the theft. The visuals reportedly showed suspects entering the house and carrying out the चोरी, which became a key piece of evidence in the investigation.

Initially, the case was registered against a few individuals, including domestic staff and other suspects. However, during the course of interrogation, the involvement of the civil judge came under scrutiny.

FIR Registered After Months of Probe

The police registered the FIR after gathering sufficient evidence, including CCTV footage and statements from arrested accused. Officials confirmed that sections related to house trespass and theft under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) have been invoked in the case.

Two accused, including a woman associated with the household and another individual, have already been arrested. Their interrogation reportedly led investigators to widen the scope of the probe and identify additional suspects, including the civil judge.

    Court Rejects Anticipatory Bail

In a significant legal development, the Patiala court has rejected the anticipatory bail plea of the accused civil judge. The court observed that the allegations are serious in nature and require a thorough investigation.

The defence had argued for relief, citing the professional standing of the accused. However, the prosecution opposed the bail, emphasizing the gravity of the charges and the need for custodial interrogation.

Following the rejection, the accused is expected to approach the higher courts for relief.

    Judiciary Under Scrutiny

The case has triggered concern as it involves a member of the judiciary, raising issues about accountability and ethical conduct within the system. Legal experts have pointed out that such incidents can impact public trust in judicial institutions.

Authorities have assured that the investigation will be conducted impartially and that no individual will be given special treatment, regardless of their position.

    Investigation Ongoing

Police officials have stated that further investigation is underway to uncover the complete sequence of events and establish the role of each आरोपी. Additional arrests are likely as the probe progresses.

The CCTV footage, along with other forensic evidence, is being closely examined to strengthen the case.
