Patna Metro project likely to be completed by August 15 next year

Patna: The Patna Metro Rail Project is making rapid progress, with the Bihar government, led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, aiming to inaugurate a five-station priority corridor by August 15, 2025. This timeline is strategically aligned with the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, scheduled for late 2025, as the government seeks to highlight the metro as a key achievement.

The state is prioritizing infrastructure developments to bolster its position ahead of the elections. A high-level meeting, chaired by Abhay Kumar Singh, Managing Director of Patna Metro and Secretary of the State Urban Development and Housing Department, reviewed the project’s progress and confirmed the target to commence operations on the Malahi Pakri to ISBT Corridor by August 15, 2025.

Singh stated, “We have instructed officials to complete the remaining tasks quickly. Construction is progressing well, and we expect to finish the Metro project by August 15 next year.” The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation is overseeing the construction of the Patna Metro.

The project includes a six-kilometer stretch connecting Malahi Pakri, Khemnichak, Bhootnath, Zero Mile, and ISBT. Construction is moving forward at a brisk pace to meet the August 15 deadline.

Singh reaffirmed the department’s commitment to the timeline. The Patna Metro will feature two main corridors—East-West and North-South—totaling nearly 31 kilometers with 24 stations.

Bihar’s Urban Development Minister, Nitin Naveen, visited the ISBT Metro Rail Depot on Wednesday to evaluate the project’s progress. He inspected the trial track and urged officials to adhere to the project schedule, emphasizing its significance for urban mobility and public expectations. This dual-corridor metro system is set to greatly enhance connectivity in Patna, with the priority corridor being a vital step toward making the project operational before the state elections.
