New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi received an enthusiastic reception from supporters on Sunday before inaugurating two significant highway projects in Delhi—the Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway and the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II).
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari were present to felicitate the Prime Minister during the inauguration ceremony.
Projects Aim to Decongest Delhi and Improve Connectivity
The newly inaugurated projects are part of the government’s broader plan to ease traffic congestion in the capital. They aim to enhance connectivity, reduce travel time, and improve traffic flow in Delhi and the surrounding areas. These initiatives reflect PM Modi’s vision of world-class infrastructure that promotes seamless mobility and better urban living.
Details of the Dwarka Expressway Delhi Section
The 10.1 km Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway has been developed at a cost of around Rs. 5,360 crore. It is designed to provide multi-modal connectivity to key locations such as Yashobhoomi, the DMRC Blue Line and Orange Line, the upcoming Bijwasan railway station, and the Dwarka cluster bus depot.
The section is divided into two packages:
Package I: 5.9 km from Shiv Murti intersection to the Road Under Bridge (RUB) at Dwarka Sector-21.
Package II: 4.2 km from Dwarka Sector-21 RUB to the Delhi-Haryana border, linking directly to the Urban Extension Road-II.
The Haryana section of the Dwarka Expressway, spanning 19 km, had been inaugurated earlier in March 2024.
Urban Extension Road-II to Ease City Traffic
PM Modi also inaugurated the Alipur to Dichaon Kalan stretch of Urban Extension Road-II, along with new links to Bahadurgarh and Sonipat. Developed at a cost of approximately Rs. 5,580 crore, the road is expected to reduce congestion on Delhi’s Inner and Outer Ring Roads and busy junctions including Mukarba Chowk, Dhaula Kuan, and NH-09.
The new spurs will provide direct access to Bahadurgarh and Sonipat, strengthen industrial connectivity, cut city traffic, and expedite goods movement across the National Capital Region (NCR).
