PM Modi to Inaugurate Halwara International Airport in Ludhiana Today

Ludhiana: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Halwara International Airport in Ludhiana Today. The Prime Minister will conduct the inauguration virtually from Jalandhar, while senior officials, state government ministers, MLAs and BJP leaders will be present at the airport premises in Halwara.

    Seven-Year Journey to Reach Completion

The Halwara Airport project will mark the culmination of nearly seven years of work. The foundation for the airport was laid during the tenure of former Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh. Construction work was later initiated under then Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, and the project has been completed under the present government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.

The project faced multiple challenges, including land acquisition and administrative hurdles, which were resolved at various stages to make the airport operational.

Flights Between Ludhiana and Delhi to Begin from March 1

Cabinet Minister Sanjeev Arora has announced that commercial flight operations between Ludhiana and Delhi will begin from March 1. Two daily flights will operate on this route. Additional domestic routes will be introduced in phases based on passenger demand.

Air India to Start Operations from Halwara

Air India has written to the authorities expressing readiness to commence flight services from Halwara Airport. Initially, flights will connect Ludhiana with Delhi, followed by services to major industrial cities including Mumbai, Bengaluru and Kolkata.

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) will also hold discussions with other airlines to expand air connectivity from Ludhiana.

International Flights to Follow After Terminal Construction

Although designated as an international airport, Halwara currently has a domestic terminal. The Airports Authority of India will soon begin construction of a separate international terminal building. International flight operations will commence after the terminal becomes operational.

Boost to Industry and Regional Connectivity

The new airport is expected to significantly benefit Ludhiana’s industrial and business community by improving air connectivity. Earlier, flight operations from the Sahnewal Airport faced operational limitations, leading to long-standing demands for a new airport in the region.

Union and State Leaders to Attend Inauguration

Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu, Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu, Rajya Sabha MP Rajinder Gupta, MPs Amarinder Singh Raja Warring and Dr Amar Singh, along with state ministers Hardeep Mundian and Tarunpreet Sond, will attend the inauguration ceremony.
