Punjab Assembly Session: Issue of LPG Supply raised, resolution of condemnation introduced

The issue of gas cylinder supply was raised on the fifth day of the Punjab Assembly’s budget session. Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak stated that the effects of the ongoing war between Israel and the United States are now being felt. He introduced a resolution of condemnation, which will now be voted on tomorrow.

He stated that gas supplies are being affected, and cuts in commercial gas supplies have begun. Furthermore, the wheat harvest season is about to begin in Punjab, which could lead to further crises. The minister also stated that warehouses are already running low on space.

Earlier, as soon as Question Hour ended, the House again erupted in uproar over the Sukhpal Singh Khaira issue. During this, chants of “Shame, Shame” were heard. Finance Minister Harpal Cheema stated that the member was present in the House today. He referred to an interview by Sukhpal Singh Khaira, prompting another chorus of “Shame, Shame” in the House.

Gas supplies are being affected, and commercial gas supplies have been cut. At this time, the wheat harvest season is about to begin in the state, which could make the situation challenging.

He said that warehouses are already short of space due to slow rice procurement. Jute bags, which are typically used for packing wheat, come from Bangladesh. This time, only 300,000 bags have been received compared to the required quantity. Therefore, they have been asked to arrange for 200,000 plastic bags.

Kataruchaak added that gas prices have also been increased, which could impact supplies to other sectors, including restaurants. He said that problems have already begun to emerge in Chennai and Mumbai. He also talked about introducing a resolution condemning the central government’s policies. Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains said he supports it.
