Punjab CM’s OSD Sends Defamation Notice to Bikram Majithia, Seeks Apology

Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s Officer on Special Duty (OSD) Rajbir Singh Ghuman has served a defamation notice on Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia over allegations made against him. Ghuman has described the allegations as false and defamatory and demanded their removal along with a public apology.

Notice follows allegations linked to ED letter

The legal notice comes after Majithia made allegations against Ghuman in connection with an Enforcement Directorate (ED) letter sent to the Punjab Director General of Police. The ED letter had sought registration of an FIR against people allegedly linked to Ghuman in connection with matters including transfers and postings of government officials, arms licence approvals and land deals.

Majithia had alleged that the contents of the ED communication raised questions over WhatsApp conversations, government transfers and postings, policy-related matters, arms licences, land dealings, confidential government information and alleged payments or benefits. These allegations have not been established as facts.

Ghuman demands removal, apology

According to the notice, Ghuman has asked Majithia to remove all posts, videos and other content carrying the allegations from public platforms within 24 hours.

He has also sought an unconditional written and video apology, a clear retraction and correction of the allegations, along with a written undertaking that such statements will not be repeated in the future.

The notice warns that continued publication, sharing or reposting of the allegations could be relied upon while seeking further legal relief and damages.

OSD had earlier challenged Majithia

The defamation notice follows Ghuman’s earlier challenge to Majithia on August 19. Ghuman had asked the SAD leader to produce evidence to support his allegations or publicly apologise, warning that he could face a defamation case otherwise.

SAD rejects defamation notice

Reacting to the development, SAD chief spokesperson Arshdeep Singh Kler described the notice as an attempt to suppress the allegations and divert public attention. The party maintained that the matter should be addressed through facts and investigation rather than legal threats.

The dispute has added a fresh legal dimension to the ongoing political confrontation between the Punjab government and the SAD. The allegations made by Majithia and the counterclaims by Ghuman remain subject to verification and any further legal or investigative proceedings.
