Punjab Government Forms 7-Member Coordination Committee to Coordinate Guru Granth Sahib Satkar Act

The Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has formed a seven-member coordination committee to coordinate with the Sri Akal Takht Sahib on matters related to the “Jagat Jot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Act, 2026.” According to the Punjab government, this committee will work in accordance with the directives of the Sri Akal Takht Sahib and will be responsible for maintaining continuous dialogue on related issues.

Committee Members Featured in All Fields

The panel formed by the Punjab government includes individuals with experience in the religious field, as well as those with judicial, police, and legal backgrounds. The committee includes former Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib Giani Raghbir Singh, head of the Damdami Taksal, Sant Giani Harnam Singh Khalsa, and Sant Baba Seva Singh of Rampur Kheda. Retired Justice Jaspal Singh, retired Justice Gurbir Singh, former IPS officer and former Chairman of the Punjab Public Service Commission Jatinder Singh Aulakh, and Law Officer Preet Inder Pal Singh have also been included in the committee.

Liaison with the Sri Akal Takht Sahib Committee

According to the Punjab government, the seven-member committee will maintain constant coordination with the committee constituted by Sri Akal Takht Sahib. After deliberating on important issues related to the Act, the committee will submit its recommendations and report to the Punjab government. This arrangement aims to provide a formal channel for communication and coordination on matters related to the Act.

Formation by the Home and Justice Department

The Punjab government’s Home Affairs and Justice Department issued an order on September 16, 2026, regarding the formation of the committee. Following this, the seven-member panel has been tasked with working on matters related to the Act. According to the Punjab government’s order, the committee will present the views and suggestions received on important issues to the government for further action.

The process will be monitored.

The “Jagat Jot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Act, 2026” was notified in Punjab in April 2026. Subsequently, the Akal Takht Sahib initiated a dialogue with the government regarding various aspects of the Act and the amendment process. Now, with the formation of the new Coordination Committee, an institutional mechanism has been established for dialogue between the Punjab government and the committee constituted by the Akal Takht Sahib.
