Punjab Governor Kataria Stresses Moral Education, Launches Mobile Science Van and Shishu Vatika at Vidya Dham

Jalandhar: Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria on Friday called upon educational institutions to play an active role in shaping students into responsible and compassionate citizens, alongside providing quality education.

Speaking at an event at Vidya Dham, Guru Gobind Singh Avenue, the Governor stressed that education must go beyond academic excellence to include moral values, empathy, and social responsibility.

“While education imparts knowledge, it must also cultivate ethics, sensitivity, and a sense of duty towards society. Education should not only teach facts but also build character,” Mr. Kataria said.

Mobile Science Van and Shishu Vatika Inaugurated

The Governor inaugurated a Mobile Science Van — an initiative supported by him — and the newly built Shishu Vatika, “Sarvhitkari Keshav Vidya Niketan.”

He was accompanied by his wife Anita Kataria, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal, Police Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur, and several officials from Vidya Bharti Punjab and Sarvhitkari Shiksha Samiti.

Mr. Kataria said the Mobile Science Van will spark scientific curiosity among students, encouraging hands-on learning and innovation.

Appeal for a Drug-Free and Prosperous Punjab

The Governor also appealed to educational institutions to take a leading role in combating drug abuse, urging them to create awareness and guide youth toward positive, productive pursuits.

He said that by engaging students in social and community initiatives, schools and colleges can become “the strongest allies” in the government’s mission to make Punjab drug-free and vibrant.

Call to Preserve Heritage and Values

Recalling the sacrifices of Guru Gobind Singh Ji and his family, Mr. Kataria emphasised the importance of keeping the youth connected to India’s rich heritage and spiritual roots.

He said students must learn about the lives and teachings of great leaders and saints, whose ideals continue to guide the nation’s moral compass.

Lauding the courage and selfless service of Punjabis during difficult times such as “Operation Sindhur” and the recent floods, the Governor said their actions have once again showcased Punjab’s spirit of unity, bravery, and humanity.

He expressed appreciation for the way communities came together to support those in need, setting an example of collective resilience.

Honours and Acknowledgements

During the ceremony, the Governor honoured several distinguished personalities for their contributions to education and social service.

He praised Vidya Bharti Punjab and Sarvhitkari Shiksha Samiti for their continuous efforts in promoting value-based education, expressing confidence that such initiatives will strengthen the moral and intellectual fabric of society.

“The Mobile Science Van will inspire young minds to explore, question, and innovate — the true essence of learning,” he said.
