Punjab Intensifies Action Against Gangsters Abroad, Several Accused Brought Back to India

The Punjab government has highlighted its ongoing crackdown on gangster networks and drug-related crime, saying the Punjab Police has intensified efforts to bring criminals who have fled abroad back to India. According to the government, more than a dozen gangsters based overseas have so far been brought back to India through coordinated efforts by the Punjab Police and other agencies.

Action Extends From the US to Moldova

The government said efforts to trace and bring back accused persons who fled the country have been expanded internationally.

According to the claims, action has involved individuals located in countries including the United States, Canada, Dubai, Malaysia and Moldova. The government also said the use of modern technology and advanced equipment has strengthened the Punjab Police’s ability to track criminals hiding overseas and assist in operations against organised crime networks.

Amritpal Alias Amrit Dhallam Brought Back From Moldova

The Punjab Government said that recently, a team of the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) completed the process of bringing gangster Amritpal alias Amrit Dhallam back from Moldova. According to the government, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann subsequently met members of the police team and appreciated their efforts.

The Punjab Government also said the police have been provided with more than conventional resources such as vehicles and standard equipment. Modern technology and advanced tools are being used to identify organised crime networks and support investigations and enforcement operations.

    Focus on Dismantling Gangster Networks

The Punjab government said the international action is aimed at weakening organised crime networks operating in or from outside the state. It said coordination with agencies and authorities in other countries is being used to pursue accused persons who have fled abroad.

Overseas Locations Will Not Provide Safe Haven

The Punjab Government said its objective is to ensure that individuals involved in organised crime cannot avoid legal action simply by leaving the country.

It stated that for gangsters associated with criminal activities in Punjab, hiding abroad should not be considered a safe refuge, as law-enforcement efforts to trace and bring back wanted accused persons will continue.
