Punjab Police Arrest Fugitive Accused in Ferozepur Triple Murder, Narcotics Cases

Chandigarh: In a major breakthrough against cross-border organised crime, Punjab Police, with the support of central agencies, has arrested fugitive Bhuvnesh Chopra alias Ashish, a key accused wanted in the sensational Ferozepur triple murder case and multiple narcotics trafficking cases.

According to the Director General of Police (DGP), Punjab Police, sustained international coordination helped track Chopra’s location in a Central Asian country, leading to his deportation and subsequent arrest upon arrival at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi.

Red Notice Issued to Track Fugitive

To restrict his international movement, authorities had earlier issued a Red Corner Notice and a Look-Out Circular (LoC) against Chopra. These measures enabled agencies to trace and detain him abroad before he was brought back to India.

Key Facilitator in Cross-Border Drug Network

Police said Bhuvnesh Chopra was a major facilitator in narcotics smuggling operations from Pakistan into Punjab. He had managed to escape abroad earlier to evade arrest but continued to be involved in coordinating illegal activities from overseas.

Prime Conspirator in 2024 Ferozepur Triple Murder

Apart from drug trafficking, Chopra has also been identified as the prime conspirator behind the August 2024 triple murder in Ferozepur. The incident claimed the lives of a young girl and two others and reportedly stemmed from a rivalry between Chopra and one of the victims, Dildeep Singh.

Crackdown on Foreign-Based Criminal Networks

Punjab Police said the arrest is part of an ongoing crackdown on foreign-based handlers and fugitives who orchestrate criminal activities from abroad. The newly constituted Organised Crime, Foreign-based Terrorists and Extortion Control (OFTEC) unit played a key role in the operation.

Officials added that Chopra’s arrest is expected to significantly disrupt the logistics network used for smuggling drug consignments into Ferozepur and other border districts of Punjab.

Punjab Police reiterated its commitment to ensuring that criminals and fugitives, whether hiding in India or abroad, are brought to justice.
