Punjab Police Plans Awareness and Empowerment Campaign for Adolescent Girls

The Punjab Police has launched an initiative to develop a comprehensive awareness and empowerment campaign for girls aged 12 to 18, focusing on their health, safety, education and future prospects. The campaign aims to provide adolescent girls with essential information, make them aware of their rights and connect them with support systems for their safe and healthy development.

Officials said the initiative will address a range of issues affecting adolescent girls, with particular emphasis on education, personal safety, health awareness and access to assistance.

    Multiple Departments to Work Together

As part of preparations for the campaign, a coordination meeting involving various departments and agencies was held at the Conference Hall of Ludhiana Police Lines.

The meeting was chaired by Special Director General of Police (Special DGP), Community Affairs Division (CAD), Gurpreet Kaur Deo.

Officials discussed ways to improve coordination between departments, conduct awareness activities and ensure that the campaign reaches its intended beneficiaries effectively.

Campaign to Reach Girls Outside the School System

The initiative will not be restricted to girls currently enrolled in schools. The Punjab Police plans to reach girls who have dropped out of school or are outside the formal education system, as well as adolescents from economically weaker and migrant families.

The objective is to connect girls facing social and economic challenges with information, guidance and support related to education, safety and their overall development.

Special Focus on Girls With Disabilities

Girls with disabilities will also be included in the campaign. Authorities plan to provide awareness and support tailored to their specific needs, with the aim of ensuring that no adolescent girl is excluded from essential information and assistance because of her social, economic or physical circumstances.

Awareness Against Child Labour and Child Marriage

The campaign will also focus on girls who may be vulnerable to child labour or early marriage. Through awareness programmes, girls and their families will be informed about the importance of continuing education, their rights relating to safety and the challenges associated with marriage at an early age.

The initiative will seek to encourage families to support girls in continuing their education and accessing appropriate assistance when required.

Health and a Safe Future at the Centre

Health awareness will form an important component of the campaign. Adolescent girls will be encouraged to pay attention to their health and will be connected with appropriate guidance and support where necessary. The initiative brings together education, health, safety and social awareness as interconnected elements of adolescent development.

Aim to Build an Inclusive Support Network

The Punjab Police said the broader objective is to establish an awareness and support mechanism capable of reaching girls living in different social and economic circumstances.

The campaign is expected to cover school-going students, school dropouts, girls from economically disadvantaged and migrant families, girls with disabilities and other vulnerable groups.

Through coordinated efforts by the police and other departments, the initiative aims to connect adolescent girls with a safer environment, educational opportunities and resources that can support their overall development.
