Punjab Government Launches ‘Swachhata Hi Seva-2026’ Campaign

The Punjab government has launched the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva-2026’ campaign with the objective of turning cleanliness into a mass movement and ensuring wider participation from people across all sections of society.

At the launch programme, officials addressed all sarpanches and Gram Panchayat members of Block Gharota, stressing that this year’s campaign would be conducted on a broader and more effective scale.

Officials from the District Water and Sanitation Mission (DWSS), Pathankot, led by the DSO-cum-Executive Engineer, along with the ADSO and social staff, briefed the elected Panchayat representatives about the objectives of the campaign and the activities planned under it.

Focus on Making Cleanliness Part of Daily Life

The government said the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign is not limited to cleaning streets, roads or drains. Its broader objective is to develop a culture of cleanliness in which maintaining hygiene becomes an integral part of people’s daily lives. The government also emphasised that keeping public places clean and attractive is a collective responsibility.

At the same time, society must ensure dignity, safety and better working conditions for employees involved in sanitation services, officials said.

Participation From Every Section of Society

The campaign will include a range of activities aimed at involving people from different sections of society in cleanliness initiatives. According to the government, these activities will not only increase awareness about cleanliness but also strengthen the spirit of community participation and collective responsibility.

Panchayats Urged to Lead Local Activities

Panchayat representatives were urged to actively involve residents in cleanliness activities in their respective villages and ensure that such initiatives continue beyond the campaign period.

The government said public participation is essential for bringing sustainable improvements and creating cleaner and healthier villages across Punjab.
