Punjab Police Bust Cross-Border Drug Racket, Seize 30 Kg Heroin Worth ₹200 Crore; Two Arrested

Amritsar: In a major crackdown on cross-border drug trafficking, the Counter Intelligence Wing of the Punjab Police has busted an international narcotics smuggling network and arrested two alleged smugglers with 30 kilograms of heroin valued at around ₹200 crore in the international market.

According to the police, the seized heroin was part of a larger cross-border smuggling operation allegedly controlled by a foreign-based handler. Preliminary investigations indicate that the arrested accused were responsible for collecting heroin consignments from designated locations and distributing them to other smugglers across different parts of Punjab.

Foreign Handler Linked to Smuggling Network

Investigators said the accused were working under the directions of a handler operating from outside India and played a key role in the state’s drug supply chain.

Police believe the heroin consignment was intended for further distribution through an organised network of traffickers operating in Punjab. Efforts are underway to identify other members of the syndicate and trace the source and destination of the seized narcotics.

NDPS Case Registered, Investigation Expanded

A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC), Amritsar.

Police teams are now investigating both the forward and backward linkages of the racket to identify financiers, suppliers, receivers and other associates connected to the network.

Officials said further arrests and recoveries are likely as the investigation progresses.

Punjab Police Intensify Anti-Drug Drive

Punjab Police said it remains committed to dismantling cross-border drug trafficking networks and preventing narcotics from entering the state.

Special surveillance is being maintained in border districts, with intelligence-based operations being carried out regularly to curb smuggling activities. The latest seizure is part of the state’s ongoing campaign against organised drug trafficking and cross-border narcotics networks.
