Chandigarh: Punjab is set to become the first Indian state to introduce a unified citizen portal, a single-window platform providing access to a wide range of government services, state Minister of Good Governance and Information Technology Aman Arora announced on Friday.
MoU Signed for Rs 13 Crore Project
The Department of Good Governance and Information Technology (DGGIT) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) worth Rs 13 crore with a private firm for designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining the new portal. Arora stated that the portal is expected to be launched within six months to ensure efficiency, accessibility, and accountability in service delivery.
The portal will be accessible via web, mobile app, Sewa Kendras, and WhatsApp, offering citizens a single digital gateway for all government services.
A key feature is the auto-fetching of documents—once uploaded for one service, the documents can be automatically retrieved for future applications, reducing repetitive submissions and streamlining processes.
AI-Driven Efficiency and Citizen-Centric Governance
With AI-driven workflow engines, the portal aims to speed up decision-making and shorten service delivery timelines. Around 600 offline services are planned to be migrated to the online platform, complementing the 236 services already available on the existing connect portal. The initiative will cover 848 services notified under the Punjab Transparency and Accountability in Delivery of Public Service Act, 2018.
Benefits for Citizens
The unified portal is expected to benefit approximately one crore applicants annually, allowing citizens to access government services from home without visiting multiple offices. By integrating services across departments, the government hopes to enhance convenience, transparency, and overall citizen experience.
