Punjab Sarpanches to Get ₹10,000 Honorarium, Announces CM Bhagwant Mann

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has made a big announcement for the sarpanches of the state. During the Sarpanch Milani program organized in Bathinda, the Chief Minister announced that from August 15, all the sarpanches of Punjab will be given an honorarium of Rs 10,000 per month.

He said that this decision has been taken in view of the important role of Sarpanches in the development and administrative work of villages. All the sarpanches of the state will get the benefit of this announcement of the Chief Minister.

The CM wrote in his post – Today a big decision has been taken. From August 15, every sarpanch will get a salary of Rs 10,000 per month. Panchayat is the first step of democracy. The sarpanch serves the village day and night. They get a salary. Now they will be able to live well with their families and develop the village at a faster pace. If the village progresses, Punjab will progress. We will continue to work for the people… This is our promise. 13,225 sarpanches were elected, 3,798 unanimously formed.

The tenure of all the elected Sarpanches and Panchayats is 5 years. Accordingly, his current term will be till October 2029, unless the panchayat is dissolved first for any legal or administrative reason. There are 13,225 sarpanches in Punjab. If all sarpanches are given an honorarium of Rs 10,000 per month, the government will have an additional financial burden of about Rs 13.23 crore every month and about Rs 158.7 crore annually.

The honorarium given to sarpanches is different in major states of the country. At present, sarpanches in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh are given an honorarium of Rs 5,000 per month, Rajasthan Rs 4,800, Madhya Pradesh Rs 4,250, Chhattisgarh Rs 4,000, Bihar Rs 2,500 and West Bengal Rs 1,500 per month. In Punjab, sarpanches used to get an honorarium of Rs 1,200 per month.
