Punjab Seva Kendras to Remain Closed on September 15 as Employees Announce Statewide Protest

Chandigarh: People across Punjab may face inconvenience on September 15 as all Seva Kendras (service centres) across the state will remain closed following a one-day total shutdown announced by the Punjab Seva Kendra Employees Union.

The employees’ union has announced the closure to press for its long-pending demands, alleging that the government has failed to address their grievances despite repeated representations.

Employees will also hold a state-level protest outside the Labour Department office in Phase-10, Mohali, on September 15. During the protest, they will raise issues related to their pending demands and what they described as the alleged high-handedness faced by employees.

    Government informed about employees’ demands

According to union office-bearers, the Punjab government and concerned officials have already been informed about the employees’ grievances.

The union said written representations have also been submitted to the authorities. However, it alleged that no concrete meeting has been convened so far to discuss and resolve the demands.

The lack of action has reportedly led to growing resentment among Seva Kendra employees across the state.

Further agitation if demands remain unresolved

The union has said that its future course of action will be decided during the September 15 protest in Mohali.

It warned that if the government fails to resolve the employees’ demands soon, the agitation could be intensified and a larger protest may be launched in the coming days.

The union also said the government and concerned departments would be held responsible for any situation arising from the proposed escalation of the agitation.

    Employees urged to reach Mohali

Punjab Seva Kendra Employees Union State President Baljinder Singh Majha and General Secretary Gursevak Singh Chahal have appealed to employees across Punjab to participate in the September 15 protest in large numbers.

The union has urged employees to reach Mohali and make the state-level demonstration successful.
