Punjab Weather Update: Yellow alert issued for heavy rain in 3 districts; Flood situation worsens in several areas

Amritsar, August 17: There is a possibility of rain in many areas of Punjab today (August 17). The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert regarding rain in three districts, Pathankot, Hoshiarpur and Rupnagar. There is a possibility of heavy rain here. Similar weather is going to remain in the state till August 19. At the same time, rain was seen in some districts yesterday. A slight increase was also seen in the maximum temperature of the state.

According to the Meteorological Center Chandigarh, the average maximum temperature of the state has seen a normal increase of 0.9 degrees, although it remains close to normal. But in some districts the temperature remains much higher than normal. The maximum temperature of Mansa was recorded at 38.1 degrees, 1.7 degrees above normal, which was the highest in the state.

The temperature of Amritsar was recorded 3.1 degrees above normal at 34.3 degrees, Ludhiana at 33.2 degrees and Bathinda at 35.2 degrees. Till 5.30 pm yesterday, Hoshiarpur recorded 29 mm of rain, Ropar 37.5 mm, SBS Nagar 16 mm and Rupnagar 2 mm.

Tarn Taran is in the grip of flood due to rising water level in the river

Due to rain in Himachal, many districts of Hoshiarpur, Pathankot, Tarn Taran, Kapurthala and Fazilka have been hit by floods. However, the administration is being cautious here. On the other hand, there is a confluence of Beas and Sutlej in Harike. Due to the rising water level, flood situation has arisen in the surrounding villages. The Dhunsi dam of Sutlej river broke near Ram Singh Wala village of Patti area. The administration is trying to fill it.

Due to heavy rains in the hilly areas of Fazilka, the Satluj river is in spate and the water level is constantly rising. Due to this, people are now scared. People who reached the Satluj bridge near village Kanwali in the India-Pakistan border area say that they are busy with their preparations.

In view of the ongoing flood situation, the Punjab Government has established district-wise control rooms to ensure quick response and coordination during emergencies. Residents can contact these control rooms for assistance and information.

Good rain is predicted in the state on Monday

According to the Meteorological Center, the alert is limited to three districts of the state today and Tuesday. But, there are chances of good rain in the state on Monday, 18 August. On this day, a yellow alert has been issued for rain in Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Hoshiarpur and Rupnagar of the state. At the same time, there are chances of good rain in other districts as well.

Jalandhar- There will be light clouds, rain is also expected. The temperature can remain between 27 to 30 degrees.

Ludhiana- There will be light clouds, rain is also expected. The temperature can remain between 25 to 33 degrees.

Patiala- There will be light clouds, rain is also expected. The temperature can remain between 27 to 33 degrees.

Mohali- There will be light clouds, rain is also expected. The temperature can remain between 26 to 33 degrees.
