    Moderate Rains Bring Relief to Punjab; Yellow Alert Issued for August 3

    There is no warning of strong thunderstorms or heavy rain in Punjab today (July 30). However, there will be light to moderate rain. Similar weather is expected to continue for the next three days. The Chandigarh Center of the Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for heavy rain on August 3.

    In the last 24 hours, the average temperature of the state has dropped by 1.7 degrees, which is 3.8 degrees below normal. The highest temperature was recorded at 38 degrees in Bathinda, while the highest rainfall of 32.4 mm was recorded in Patiala.

    By 8 am today, the Meteorological Department had issued an alert of light to moderate rain in about 72 tehsils. However, some areas have received some rain.

    Possibility of rain in these districts

    According to the Meteorological Department, light to moderate rain is expected in many places (50 to 75 percent area) of Pathankot, Hoshiarpur and Rupnagar today. While light to moderate rainfall is likely at some places in Gurdaspur, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Nawanshahr, Barnala, Bathinda, Muktsar, Fazilka, Mansa, Ludhiana, Fatehgarh Sahib, SAS Nagar, Sangrur and Patiala districts.

    Rain is likely in 25 to 50 percent of the areas here. While light to moderate rainfall is likely at different places in Ferozepur, Moga, Faridkot, Amritsar, Tarn Taran districts.

    There is no fear of flood in the state right now

    Irrigation Minister Varinder Goyal says that the condition of the major dams of the state has been reviewed. There is no danger of any kind at the moment. Bhakra Dam currently has 1618.38 feet of water, while its maximum capacity is 1680 feet.

    There is 1346 feet of water in Pong Dam and it still has a capacity of 30.787 feet left. There is 1664 feet of water in Ranjit Sagar Dam and 54 feet is still empty. He said that there is more inflow in these dams, but the situation is completely under control.
