4 days of severe heatwave; IMD issues yellow alert for 12 districts, orange alert for 8 districts

The maximum temperature of all the districts of the state has now crossed 40 degree celsius.

Chandigarh: People in Punjab will have to face severe heat for the next 4 days. Despite rain alert by the Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for 12 districts and an orange alert for 8 districts today.

The average temperature has increased by 1.0 degree in the last 24 hours. The temperature is expected to increase further today. The maximum temperature of all the districts of the state has now crossed 40 degree celsius.

If we talk about the temperature then, Pathankot was the hottest where the temperature was recorded at 46.9 degrees. On the other hand, the paddy season has started in the state. The department has made preparations to provide electricity to the farmers for eight hours a day without any interruption. In such a situation, the Center has been asked to provide 1000 MW more electricity. The total power generation capacity of the state is 6500 MW, which is now expected to reach 15500 MW.

There is a heat wave alert in these districts

The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow heat wave alert for Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ferozepur, Moga, Patiala, Mohali, Malerkotla and Fatehgarh. While the orange alert has been issued for Sangrur, Mansa, Barnala, Ludhiana, Bathinda, Muktsar, Faridkot, Fazilka. The weather will be almost similar on June 13.

It has been advised to Children and elderly people to remain indoors as rising temperatures can cause heatstroke. IMD has advised people to come out only when there is work and remain hydrated.
