Amritsar: Customs seize gold worth Rs 21 lakh from passenger

The smuggled gold was seized on 03.06.2024 under Section 110 of the Customs Act, 1962. Further investigation is under process.

Amritsar: Customs department officials here at the Sri Guru Ram Das Ji International Airport intercepted a passenger and recovered total of 294 grams of gold. The market value of smuggled gold is around Rs 21 lacs.

Based on information from the intelligence, officers of AIU unit of Customs (preventive) Commissionerate, Amritsar intercepted a passenger (pax) who had arrived at Sri Guru Ram Das Ji International Airport.

The passenger was coming from Kuala Lumpur on Air Asia flight No. D7188. The pax was acting suspiciously following wich the personal search was conducted.

Personal search and interrogation resulted into recovery of 02 Gold Kaddas (weighing 50 grams and 70 grams respectively) and 01 Gold Chain (weighing 174 grams).

The smuggled gold was seized on 03.06.2024 under Section 110 of the Customs Act, 1962. Further investigation is under process.
