Amritsar: Amritsar Rural Police of Punjab has taken a major action against drug smuggling and recovered 4.5 kg of heroin in two important operations. Along with heroin, the police has also been successful in arresting 7 smugglers. The police carried out this entire operation on the basis of secret information. The accused arrested after the raid informed that this entire network is connected with an international drug syndicate.
The police had received secret information that some people were planning to supply a consignment of drugs. On this basis, police teams raided different places and caught the accused red handed. Investigation has revealed that these smugglers are connected to an international drug syndicate and their links extend to many other states and countries.
Connections with smuggler Gurdeep Rane
During interrogation, the police also found out that the arrested smugglers are connected to Gurdeep alias Rano, who is a key operator of this syndicate. Gurdeep has already been detained under PIT NDPS Act. The police is now conducting further investigation to reach other members of this network and its roots, so that the entire drug syndicate can be exposed.
Punjab government’s campaign against drug addiction
In the coming days, the Punjab government is going to further intensify the campaign against drug abuse. In the budget for the year 2015-26, important steps have been taken to strengthen the Punjab Police against drug abuse. Anti-drone systems are being purchased at a cost of Rs 110 crore. Not only this, Rs 150 crore has been kept in reserve to count drug addicts across the country. After being selected, the Punjab government will also take steps for the rehabilitation of all drug addicts.
