Chandigarh: Cyber thugs defrauded person of Rs 3.5 lakh, case lodged

Cyber Crime Police Station Sector-17 has registered a case against an unknown accused.

A case of online fraud of Rs 3.5 lakh has come to light with Daljit Singh, a resident of Sector-22, Chandigarh. The fraudster claimed to be an acquaintance of the family and collected money in the name of surgery for a relative admitted to a hospital in Delhi. Cyber Crime Police Station Sector-17 has registered a case against an unknown accused.

According to the information, Daljit Singh received a WhatsApp call in which the caller gave his name as Sandeep. He said that he knows Daljit’s niece’s husband and told him that his niece and her husband had come from Canada and were currently admitted in a private hospital in Delhi.

Sandeep claimed that his husband’s condition was critical and he needed money urgently for the surgery. The family has collected most of the money but some amount is still short.

He gave Daljit’s number so that he could help. The fraudster said that all the other relatives were talking to the doctor in the hospital. So he was asked to talk to him. Based on the complaint, the Cyber Crime Police has registered a case against an unknown accused.
